SouthStar CDC recoginzes the importance of balanced, appropriate and responsible economic development as a component of healthy neighborhoods. Program initiatives in economic development include:


East Atlanta Village

East Atlanta Village (EAV) efforts include a partnership with the City of Atlanta for the design and implementation of streetscape improvements in the EAV and the provision of economic development and support to EAV merchants and other local commercial areas. SouthStar has contributed to community plans for the Moreland Avenue Corridor and the EAV and is expanding our focus to a second commercial node in 2004. 

Southeast Atlanta Business Development Center

SouthStar CDC conducted a full-scale study for Health & Human Services' Office of Community Service to determine the feasibility of a buiness incubator in southeast Atlanta. The study, called "From Egg to Flight: A Business Plan & Feasibility Study for The Small Business Nest (A Micro Enterprise Incubator)" is under review by the Office of Community Service, evaluated the market for workforce/human assets, existing opportunities, availability of financing for businesses under devlopment, and sustainable funding sources for the business development center.
